One. Thank you to everyone who headed to our Retro Party. We came, we gamed, we jammed the hell out. It was so crazy it’s taken me a week to get around to updating everything (probably much to the annoyance of everyone who didn’t come/care).

Massive thanks to Mega Ran, Happy Fun Time Game Band, Beat Spoke, Kinetic Monkey and Tommy Creep. Super Tomato did a great job with the games too.. snuck in a round or two of one-hit kills, pistols, Temple on Goldeneye. Classic.

Here is 5 minutes of a new track caught live. It’s called Vital Spark. It’s long.

Alone - All // That // Can // Does

I’m really, really, REALLY excited to announce:

It all started with me exchanging emails with a few promoters from up north… Then a few emails to some awesome artists, then some chats on a message board, then bumping into someone wanting to do the exact same thing in the exact same shop, then having a cup of coffee, then slamming a fist on a table (maybe) and shouting “Let’s do this!”

Yeah, I’m putting on a gig.

The headliner is none other than the hip hop hero of US nerdcore Mega Ran (www.megaran.com) who, among other achievements, released an album solely based on the 1997 classic Final Fantasy VII, and also become widely known as that guy who done got a deal with Capcom due to his work rapping over and about Mega Man (hence the name).

Then there are the other artists, all of whom hail from the UK, who all shared the vision of “this. Sounds. Awesome.” We also have retro consoles and games on the night, more chiptunes than you can shake four AA batteries at, and more announcements too

And it will be awesome..

In the coming days/weeks I’ll be blogging about the artists over on www.whatthemath.com . I can’t wait.

Many thanks to Jo (LMMC) etc. There are some videos of her full set and I will link to those shortly, you can see me go “The Full Edge” as some-one pointed hat. I personally think the beanie hat and delay pedal needs to be taken back from that man.. but hey.

Finally I made up some CDs of new tracks/live tracks as I only played a short set and wanted to give people something that sounded at least a little bit similar to Alone Live (ie.. not like Fizzing). I have a few left! So it is up on bandcamp! £3 in the UK £4 to Euro and the rest of the world. You can stream it too. One they are gone its gone.

Next Monday (11th March) Laurence Made Me Cry, folk/electronic/diy project of Cardiff songstress Jo Whitby, finally releases her debut album ‘The Diary of Me’. There are several reasons you should care about this. The first reason is that it is a stunning, varied and overly beautiful listen, dragging you through out-the-window pondering, to stalking to abstract dreamscapes.

The second reason is Jo has made something that not only celebrates the connected world  we live in today, but uses it to her advantage, pulling in guests and friends from across the world to contribute words, music and narration. The album is bursting with ideas that tumble out of every corner. Like a worn family album, full of pictures of friends and memories. It was also funded by contributors the world over! Can’t get anymore modern/diy than that really..

The final reason you should care is one of those contributors is myself, adding the ol’ bleeps, a few bloops and at least three booow noises to a couple of tracks on the album.

Listen/Order:

This Saturday marks the record release party at Buffalo, Cardiff, from 7pm til 10pm. It’s going to be special. Not only am I supporting (with an almost entirely new set too. oooh ahhh.. I’ll be the guy without the acoustic instrument..) alongside Salwa Azar and Pulco, but will be alongside Jo to play live versions of some of the tracks, with other contributors. It’s pretty much going to be the only time this is going to happen. We’ve been noodling, exchanging tracks and laughing as my NES fails to stay in tune.

It will be a good night. Come. Buy the album. Support your local artist(s).

Finally, I had some lovely feedback after Dorkbot, as well as selling out of that exclusive ‘Live in the Litter Tray’ CD. I will have the sequel with me, as well as the famous Alone luxury fruit and nut tip jar.

Also as I couldn’t play a full set for the crowd (what with all the talking) I did a super limited ‘Live’ CD with essentially the chronicles of me building the live setup, in musical form. Here is a brief run down of that:

01: All That Can, Does : Live version recorded the morning of Dorkbot, no guitars.

02: Long, Sad, Shift to Red : Live version recorded the morning of Dorkbot.

03: Some Monday : Recorded 2011, Nanoloop, guitar and MPC500. First live track.

04: When My Harmonics Meet Yours (Early) : Recorded 2011. First ‘setup’ tests. Based on 2004 track ‘When My Headlights Meet Yours’

05: Some Hours Just Don’t Count : Recorded 2012, testing transfer of guitar tab into sequencer.

My next live date is the 9th March. Be there, I’ll be the guy playing the square waves.
